When you start using the CAFE Menu as a visual aid, it is important to post the strategies as you teach them under the goal headings of Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expand Vocabulary.
If students are new to the strategies, the menu is built slowly as each strategy is introduced and taught (and it is highly preferred that students write the cards). If students have background knowledge on strategies, as this fifth-grade class does, the strategies are reviewed and added more quickly.
